What are they sellin?!

There are so many different commercials out there and most of them drive me completely insane. The annoying music, the stupid products they are trying to sell, and the fake smiles of the people in them. Most of the commercials on television are such a waste of time and I don’t like to watch or look at advertisements that don’t seem interesting to me. The one time that I really enjoy commercials is during the holiday season. After Halloween anytime you open a newspaper ad or turn on the TV the chances of you seeing something to do with Christmas is high. I love the holiday season so as soon as the holiday commercials come on it immediately puts me in a good mood. I love the way they change Christmas carols into something that makes me want to but their product. Christmas time is the only time that I can enjoy commercials. They make everything more cheerful and bright and will usually put everyone in the holiday spirit.

Research History

In the past I have had a lot of experience with writing research papers. In high school I took a persuasive research and writing class. I took it at the beginning of my junior year not only to improve my writing but to help prepare for the ACT. I found that writing research papers were somewhat challenging because even though you have an opinion on something, finding the right type of data to back it up is hard. After you find the research you have to cite it, in high school we had to do notecards. I understand that we have to give credit to the person we got the information from, but it just seemed like a lot of wasted time. I also had to write types of research papers for newspaper. We would do staff opinion papers and we would need supporting details. With that we wouldn’t have to cite everything. I enjoy writing research papers because it lets me state my opinion and then actually support my argument. That is my experience with writing research papers.

Racism in colleges! Cantor Question 2

There are many ways to make a college diverse. According to Cantor the steps that must be taken involve the arts, along with emersing into different cultrues with different races. To start off he beleives that this can be done within a realitvely short amount of time. It can take from a week to a semester. Many of these exchanges need to include people from many different ethnicities and backgrounds. The arts are a very good way to become diverse because cultures can be expressed in so many different ways. Also he beleives that we need to be able to be in different types of converstaions with one another and see each other on the same levels. I strongly beleive that being mulitcultural and have colleges diverse is very important. America is more then one culture. That is what makes us America, by being able to have more then one type of cultural work and live together. Yes there still is racism and there probley always will be, but trying to bridge that gap is very important. I'm not sure if thats what was wanted but i was kind of confused on what canor was talking about. I just know that he wants to make colleges more diverse.

Multiculturalism and Diversity

So this is very intresting to think about...They are saying now that diversity is becoming a part of society, this is true. They are also saying that the white male population in the work force is decreasing, which is the opposite of the white women population in the workforce. I find this an intresting topic because if you think about it diversity has always been apart of the work force it just happens to be acceptable now. Back in the old days, there was slavery everyone was just fine with different races working for them. Then when there were jobs that no one else wanted to do diverstiy was fine. As soon as different races wanted to move up in the work force it was not allowed. So diversity was okay as long as it benifted other people. Now its unacceptable to be racist or negative against anyone that is working with you or moving up in the work force. Mulitclturalism is a very important part of society.

Reviewed

The peer review process is a great way to improve the quality of a paper. I like having other students look at my paper and tell me what I did wrong and what I could do to improve. So having someone else correct the mistakes that I didn't catch is very useful. One thing that I didn't like at all was having to read the paper out loud to a partner. Anyone can read my paper, that is more then fine with me, but as soon as I heard we had to read it out loud I started doubting everything I wrote. I am more then happy to write anything and have someone read it. I am more then happy to read someone elses paper out loud. I am not however even okay with reading my own paper out loud. I don't know why, I just don't like to do it. Besides that I like the peer review process.

Watersking fail! :(

I was twevle years old and everyone in my family knew how to waterski. I had grown up living on the lake and watched my older cousins land tricks, ski with one leg, and wipeout. They never thought I was old enough to try, but the day of my twelfth birthday they decided to take me out on the boat. I remember being so scared but I knew that if I didn't at least try I would regret it, and they would never let me live it down. The water was still freezing even though it was the begining of July. My life jacket was strapped around me and my feet were in the heavy skis. My brother Roger floated close by to give me instructions, and when he told me to hold on to the tow rope my knuckles turned white. They started to pull forward and as soon as the rope got tight I let go and realized I had not gone anywhere. I was embarrassed at first but my brother told me that it was okay because no one got up on their first try. So as the day went on I made no progress. I stopped letting go of the rope but I couldn't keep my legs straight to actually go forward. I ended up doing a lot of summer salts. After a few hours of trying the adults said it was time to stop and have dinner. I thought we could try again after dinner but it turned out to be the  boys turn. So that was the last day that I tried to waterski, I never got a chance after that but I realized that I dont need to waterski to enjoy the lake. Watersking is a fun sport that was never able to learn.
